Area Youth Win NorthStar Cooperative Scholarship

Winners of the NorthStar Cooperative, Inc. scholarships were recently announced. Branden Zuck of Ladysmith, WI; James Weber of Vassar, MI, and Barbara Leipprandt of Caseville, MI each received a $500 scholarship for continuing their education in the field of agriculture.

A junior at Iowa State University, Zuck is majoring in Animal Science Pre-Veterinary medicine. Zuck is actively involved at college and is a member of several groups on campus, including the Collegiate Beef Team, the Pre-Veterinary Club, and the Block and Bridle Club where he served as the President of the Beef Interest Group. A member of the Alpha Zeta Agricultural Honorary Fraternity and the Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture, Zuck maintains a 4.00 grade point average. Previously, Zuck attended Ladysmith High School where he graduated first in his class with a grade point average of 4.00. Zuck is the son of the James and Kathleen Zuck of Ladysmith, WI.

A junior at California Polytechnic State University, Weber is majoring in Dairy Science (Husbandry). At Cal Poly, he is actively involved in the Dairy Club and serves as a Student Manager at the dairy. Prior to attending Cal Poly, Weber attended Michigan State University where he was involved with the Dairy Club. A graduate of Millington High School, Weber was a member of the school’s basketball, baseball, and soccer teams, earning several awards on the soccer team including Offensive, Defensive, and Team Most Valuable Player. Weber is the son of Duane and Sandy of Weber Farms, Inc in Vassar, MI.

Leipprandt is a sophomore at Michigan State University, majoring in Animal Science. A graduate of Laker High School, Leipprandt served as a Treasurer of the National Honor Society. Leiprrandt was actively involved with the Huron Community Fair and the FFA, where she won several golds, silvers and bronzes. Leipprandt is actively involved in the MSU Dairy Club and works at the dairy farm. Leipprandt is the daughter of Keith and Stephanie Leipprandt, and granddaughter of Paul Leipprandt of Paul Leipprandt & Sons, Inc in Caseville, MI.

The NorthStar Cooperative Scholarship program was established in 2005 to encourage post high school study in the field of agriculture for stockowners and their children. Eligible candidates must be a stockowner of the Cooperative or a family member of a stockowner. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of scholastic achievement, current and potential leadership, and interest in pursuing a career in agriculture.
