Three Youth Awarded NorthStar Cooperative Scholarship

Winners of the 2009 NorthStar Cooperative, Inc. Scholarships were recently announced. Brandon Gingrich of LeRoy, Michigan; James Weber of Vassar, Michigan and Elizabeth Luedtke of Larsen, Wisconsin are all recipients of a $500 scholarship for continuing their education in the field of agriculture.

A freshman at Michigan State University (MSU), Gingrich is completing a four-year degree in Animal Science. Graduating first in his class from Pine River High School in May, 2008, Gingrich received numerous awards for his academic achievements. Gingrich was involved in 4-H for ten years, was Captain of the Pine River Varsity Cross Country Team and a member of the National Honor Society. Gingrich is the son of Craig and Amy Martin of Gingrich Meadows, Inc. in LeRoy, Michigan.

Weber is a student of the Dairy Management Program at Michigan State University. A graduate of Millington High School, Weber played Varsity Soccer earning Most Valuable Player Offense and Defense Awards. A member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Weber serves as an usher and volunteer for many of the church’s events. Weber assists on his family’s dairy farm which is owned by his parents Duane and Sandra.  

A sophomore at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, Luedtke is majoring in Crop and Soil Science. Luedtke is actively involved at college and is a member of Sigma Alpha, Agronomy Club and Ag Council. Additionally, her academic excellence has earned her a spot on the Chancellors List and the Deans List. Actively involved in 4-H, Luedtke was previously a member and teen leader and now serves as a leader. Additionally, she was a member of FFA and National Honor Society and has served as a Sunday School Teacher. Luedtke is the daughter of Dean and Mary Ann of Luedtke Brother’s of Zittau.

The NorthStar Cooperative Scholarship program was established in 2005 to encourage post high school study in the field of agriculture for stockowners and their children. Eligible candidates must be a stockowner of the Cooperative or a son or daughter of a stockowner. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of scholastic achievement, current and potential leadership, and interest in pursuing a career in agriculture.
