2007 Progressive Dairy Producer Announced
With a dollar value increase of $1,131 over the past five years, Randy, Carol and Adam Erickson of Bear Creek, Wisconsin have won NorthStar Cooperative’s Progressive Dairy Producer Award for 2007. Special attention to nutrition, harvesting, dry cow management, and cow comfort have all played a role in the 198-cow herd’s progress. Wayside Dairy: Good people important to success
“NorthStar offers really good people, not just good products. The people on farm are very helpful and professional. They care about our success,” said Dan and Jeremy Natzke of Wayside Dairy, LLC. Because of that, the Natzkes have trusted NorthStar Cooperative for many aspects of their 1,230–cow Greenleaf, Wisconsin dairy since 1970. Along with using the Select Mating Service (SMS) and Program for Genetic Advancement (PGA) for many years, the farm started using large herd technician service in 2001. Johne’s Milk ELISA closer to inclusion in USDA Johne’s program
The AntelBio Johne’s Milk ELISA earned official recognition at the U.S. Animal Health Association meetings this fall in Reno, Nevada. After review by the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Johne’s Working Group, the Johne’s Committee submitted two Resolutions to allow Johne’s testing on DHI milk samples into state and national Johne’s disease control programs. DHI Lab Quality Certification now includes Johne’s testing
The National DHIA board of directors recently accepted standard guidelines and procedures for ELISA testing in DHI laboratories. This action makes ELISA testing part of the Quality Certification Services audit that all DHI laboratories participate in annually. Click to learn more.
