| Cost
Analysis Packaged in convenient 50 pound boxes, all three products are fed at a rate of one-half ounce. As a ball park figure, you can estimate that one cow will eat one pound per month. 1/2 oz./day x 31 days = 15.5 oz. (16 ounces in a pound) This boils down to 12 to 18 cents a day (depending on which product you use). Researchers usually figure a cow open after 110 days is costing the producer $2.00 a day. Therefore, a cow open 160 days has cost you $100 just being open, as compared to the cost of feeding Bio Cycle the entire lactation at an investment of only $25 to $35 per cow. In some instances, feeding Bio Cycle or Bio Cycle Plus will reduce somatic cell counts. However, initially cell counts may rise (days 3 to 5 after feed introduction) as the cow's system is purged. A few days after starting the product, milk filters need to be checked often as the cow's system is flushed of white blood cells. After the cow's system is purged, the cell count is reduced dramatically, which results in a reduction of mastitis with pliable, better conditioned udders. Some herds have seen 5 to 7 pound increases in milk production within a few weeks (with others showing even larger increases) after using these products. In the worst case scenario, a one and a half pound increase in milk will pay for the product even without considering lower somatic cell incentives, stronger heats, better conception, reduced days open, lower cull rate, and generally a healthier herd. And therefore, profits increase. The initial costs may also be deceptive. In many situations, there are feed ingredients that can be eliminated when feeding these products so that the cost is actually much less than anticipated. For instance, Bio Cycle Plus is a complete microbial feed additive so that other probiotic packs, yeasts, charcoal or clay products (bentonite, etc.) should be removed from the ration, substantially reducing costs.
Return on Investment The return on your investment can be realized in a variety of ways. The following is an example of one dairy producer's experience feeding Bio Cycle Plus at a cost 17.5¢/cow/day.
*This is just one example. Your results may vary depending on herd condition. Return on Investment Worksheet: Figure out YOUR return on investment! We believe that if the product is given the proper trial period (90 days), it will often double or triple your return on investment.
