Select Mating Service
"We have spent the past 20 years working with the Select Mating Service to develop a herd of cows with correct feet and legs, great udders and the longevity to continue producing quality calves. Before we started with SMS evaluators Jim Day and Chuck Harmon we had feet and leg problems and our herd was becoming inbred. Working with SMS has improved our genetics so much that soundness and production aren't even issues anymore." ~John and Andy Sweet, Stockbridge, Michigan

The
Select Mating Service provides corrective mating for 15+ type traits
and is designed to follow your breeding philosophy and goals. Last
year, Select Sires evaluators performed more than three million corrective
matings, making it the most widely accepted mating system in the world.
With the adoption of on-farm computers, evaluators are able to generate
mating reports and leave them on-farm during the visit. |

Sires
Accelerated
Progress with Pedigree Mate
Your heifers are the most valuable animals on your dairy operation. They
possess the best genetics. They have the potential to make a tremendous
impact on your herds future. On the average, 30 to 40 percent of
all herd replacements that come into your milk string eventually come
from first calf heifers. You can't afford to overlook the importance of
a mating plan for this elite group.
The Select Sires Mating program, SMS II Pedigree Mate,
helps to maximize the genetic investment you make on these heifers. It
combines the best genetics with corrective matings that are based on each
heifers parentage. The program uses the heifers sire and maternal
grandsire, plus her dams linear breakdown, if her dam has been evaluated.
SMS II takes this information and formulates an estimated linear for each
heifer, much like a Parent Average (PA).
Sire recomendations are based on the maximum
percent of calving ease and the number of bulls you prefer. Pedigree Mate
allows you to choose top production sires. At the same time, you can use
your heifers pedigree to make significant type improvement in the
next generation. Thats maximum genetic progress.
